Now, on to today's post.

We have three points sales to cover this week: Air Canada Aeroplan, Avianca LifeMiles, and American AAdvantage. They are all running at the same time, which is unusual, and they are not all equal.

Here's what's inside today's post:

Air Canada Aeroplan is selling points with up to a 110% bonus, bringing the purchase price down to around 12.7 USD per 1000 points if you max out the promotion.

This is one of the better Aeroplan sales we have seen in quite some time.

The offer runs from July 16 to July 19, 2026, and is structured like this:

Different members may be targeted for different offers, so log in to your own account before deciding. For example, I am targeted for a 90% bonus, and the amounts needed to unlock each bonus tier are different…

This is the one I like most of the three today.

Aeroplan is one of the most useful frequent flyer programs out there. It has a huge partner network, no fuel surcharges on awards, and the ability to add a stopover on a one-way award for just 5,000 points. That combination makes it very flexible and very practical.

At 12.7 USD per 1000 points, I would consider buying to build a balance. Of course, points can always devalue, and availability can disappear, so you still need a plan. But the price is very attractive.

If you need to top off your balance for a specific redemption, or you simply want to have Aeroplan points ready when good award space appears, this is a very good rate.

Avianca LifeMiles is also on sale, with up to a 130% bonus, bringing the cost down to around 14.3 USD per 1000 points.

The offer runs from July 15 to July 24, 2026:

LifeMiles can be very useful because Avianca is in Star Alliance, meaning you can redeem on airlines like Lufthansa, SWISS, Turkish Airlines, ANA, EVA Air, Air Canada, and United. The program also does not add fuel surcharges on many awards, which can make premium cabin redemptions very attractive.

But I will be honest: I do not love LifeMiles the way some people do.

The program can be buggy. Search results are inconsistent. Sometimes it sees award space that other programs do not, which is great. Sometimes it misses space that other programs show clearly, which is frustrating.

I would not buy LifeMiles just because there is a sale. If I had a specific flight in mind and could already see the availability, then yes, buying at 14.3 USD per 1000 points could make sense. But I would not stock up casually.

My rule with LifeMiles: search first, confirm availability, pray a bit and then buy.

The third sale is American AAdvantage, and this one is special because AAdvantage does not run good mileage sales as often as other programs.

American is offering up to a 50% discount, effectively a 100% bonus, on purchased miles from July 15 to July 22, 2026.

The best value comes only at the high end of the tiers:

If you max it out, you can buy AAdvantage miles for around 18.8 USD per 1000 points. That is not cheap, and you need to spend a meaningful amount of money to get there.

But AAdvantage is one of the most valuable programs when used correctly. The real opportunities are not usually on American Airlines flights. They are with partner redemptions, especially premium cabins on airlines like Qatar Airways, Etihad, Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas. AAdvantage still has some of the best partner redemption opportunities in the points world.

If I had the money available to buy them, I would seriously consider this. Not because the price is amazing, but because AAdvantage miles can unlock redemptions that are otherwise extremely expensive.

That said, the key phrase is: clear use. This is not a sale where I would tell everyone to buy. You need to spend a lot to get the best rate, and holding a large mileage balance always carries risk.

If you know that you would be able to use them, this can be great. If not, I would not buy.

The moral of the story

Of the three, AAdvantage is my favorite this week. But Aeroplan is the most realistic one.

At 12.7 USD per 1000 points, with so many partners and flexible routing options, it is the one I would be most comfortable buying even to build a balance rather than for a specific booking.

LifeMiles can be excellent, but only if you have already found the award you want to book.

AAdvantage is the most interesting from a redemption perspective, but also the hardest to recommend broadly because the cost to get the best value is significant.

As always: do not buy just because something is discounted. Buy because you know how you will use the points.
