Hey {{first name | reader}},

Happy Monday from Madrid!

My time in Spain is almost over, and tomorrow I am heading to Hong Kong.

I am really excited about this next part of the trip. Over the coming weeks I will be visiting China, Japan, and South Korea, staying at some interesting hotels and trying several airlines along the way.

But before I leave, there is a hotel points promotion I want to share.

Here's what's inside today's post:

  • IHG One Rewards: buy points with a 100% bonus

  • Tomorrow: Cathay Pacific business class to Hong Kong

IHG One Rewards: buy points with a 100% bonus

IHG One Rewards has launched another points sale, offering up to a 100% bonus on purchased points through October 13.

With the full bonus, you can purchase points for $5 per 1,000 points, as usual. To unlock the 100% bonus, you need to purchase at least 35,000 points in a single transaction. Check your account for your specific eligible offer.

For example, purchasing 100,000 points would give you 200,000 total points for $1,000.

IHG has some excellent luxury brands, including InterContinental, Regent, and Six Senses. And the interesting thing about IHG is that award prices are dynamic. Sometimes a hotel charging $500 or $600 per night can be available for considerably fewer points than you would expect.

Not every redemption offers good value, which is exactly why I always recommend checking the points price against the cash rate before buying anything. But when the numbers line up, it can be very meaningful.

IHG also runs these 100% bonus promotions fairly regularly, so there is no need to rush if you do not have a specific stay in mind. But if you are planning an IHG stay in the coming months and the math works, this is worth looking at.

Tomorrow: Cathay Pacific business class to Hong Kong

Cathay Pacific A350 business class cabin

Now, onto the trip.

Tomorrow I will be flying Cathay Pacific business class from Madrid to Hong Kong on the Airbus A350. This will be my first time flying Cathay Pacific in business class, and I am particularly excited to see what the experience is like.

Unfortunately I will not be flying their newest business class product, the Aria Suite. That is the beautiful new suite with privacy doors that Cathay has been introducing on its refurbished Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. I would love to try it, but Cathay does not currently operate it on its Madrid flights.

If you are interested in trying the Aria Suite yourself, Cathay currently schedules it on selected flights between Hong Kong and destinations including London, Frankfurt, Milan, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, Sydney, Melbourne, and Tokyo Haneda, among others. Just make sure to check the specific aircraft configuration before booking, since not every flight to those destinations features the new cabin.

Still, I am really looking forward to trying Cathay's A350 business class. I have heard great things about the airline's service, food, and overall experience, and I am curious to see how it compares with other Asian airlines I have flown.

I will share my impressions once I arrive in Hong Kong, followed by a more detailed review.

That is it for today. Next time I write, I should be on the other side of the world.

Catch you in the clouds,
Tomi from Points Master
