Hey {{first name | reader}},
Happy Wednesday! Today we have three different travel topics: Emirates' new airport lounge concept, Dan and Oskar's newest video from Urumqi, and a very good luxury hotel offer in Milan.
Here's what's inside today's post:

Emirates unveils its next-generation lounge concept

Emirates new lounge interior
Emirates has revealed its new global lounge concept, and the first redesigned lounges are already open in Munich and Frankfurt. The airline says this new design will roll out across more key cities, with Manchester, Mauritius, and Istanbul next in line.
The idea is to bring more of the Emirates onboard and Dubai lounge aesthetic into its outstation lounges around the world. Think marble, gold accents, herringbone flooring, better lighting, more defined seating zones, and the backlit Emirates Ghaf Tree motif.
The new lounges are designed around different ways people use them: working, eating, relaxing, socializing, and connecting before a flight. Some of the more interesting updates include more private work areas, wireless charging and universal power access at every seat, redesigned dining areas with live cooking, a "Made In" section highlighting local cuisine, a dedicated bread oven for pizza, flatbreads, and manakeesh, a new barista bar concept with coffees, teas, cocktails, and mocktails, and more wellness-focused amenities.
I like this change from Emirates.
The airline is famous for its onboard experience, especially First Class and the A380, but its airport lounges outside Dubai have not always felt as exciting as the brand itself. Some are perfectly nice, but not necessarily memorable.
This feels overdue, but in a good way. If Emirates can make its outstation lounges feel more consistent with the image people have of the airline, that strengthens the whole premium experience. Lounge design counts because it sets the tone before you even board. And for an airline that sells itself on glamour and comfort, the ground experience should feel just as intentional as the flight.
Dan and Oskar's new video: 24 hours in Urumqi
Dan and Oskar's newest video is one of the more interesting ones they have made recently. They spent 24 hours in Urumqi, the capital of China's Xinjiang region, during a complicated transit itinerary on the way from Thailand to Sweden.
What makes the video so fascinating is that Urumqi feels nothing like the version of China most people imagine. When people think of China, they usually picture Beijing, Shanghai, the Great Wall, or futuristic skylines. But this video shows a completely different side of the country: mosques, Central Asian food, Turkish coffee, markets selling nuts and dates, snowy streets, public dancing, Uyghur culture, and a city that visually feels closer at times to Central Asia than eastern China.
I honestly never imagined China had a part like this, which is exactly why the video is so worth watching.
They start the day at a local park, where they learn how quickly Urumqi has changed over the past few decades. They then visit the Xinjiang museum, explore a residential area, stop at a vegan restaurant, and finish at the city's Grand Bazaar, which looks like the clear highlight of the day.
The bazaar has this wild mix of influences: Chinese characters and flags, Islamic architecture, food stalls, pomegranate juice, Turkish coffee, Central Asian dishes, music, dancing, and a crowd that feels very different from what you would expect in most China travel videos.
Xinjiang has a complicated and serious political context, and the video is not trying to cover those darker aspects in depth. It is simply showing their experience on the ground during one day in the city.
That is what makes it interesting. It is not a normal top 10 things to do video. It is more like watching two people slowly realize that a place they had never understood is far more layered, surprising, and culturally complex than expected.
If you like travel videos that show places you would probably never think to visit yourself, this one is worth watching.
