Alaska Atmos Rewards is selling points with up to a 100% bonus, which brings the price down to around $18.80 per 1,000 points at the best tier.

The sale runs from July 30 to August 20, 2026, and the structure looks like this:

The main reason Alaska points are useful is the partner network.

You can redeem them on Japan Airlines, British Airways, Condor, Malaysia Airlines, Royal Jordanian, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Finnair, Starlux, and the recently added Philippine Airlines.

Philippine Airlines is specifically interesting because it now has a surprising amount of award space through Alaska. If you are trying to get to, from, or around Asia, it can be a very useful option.

There are also two features of the Atmos program that I love.

First, awards can usually be cancelled and the points redeposited for only $20. That gives you a lot more flexibility than most other programs, and it means you can book speculatively if something looks good without being completely locked in.

Second, Alaska allows one free stopover on many international one-way awards. This is underrated. A stopover means you can visit an extra city on the way to your final destination rather than just connecting for a few hours. Depending on routing and partner rules, you could fly to Tokyo, spend a few days, and continue onward on the same one-way award ticket.

That is one of the reasons people who know this program really like it.

One thing I do miss is that LATAM used to be bookable through Alaska, and I used to redeem business class tickets to the US through this program all the time. That partnership is unfortunately gone. But there is still a lot of good stuff left.

Frankfurt to Cape Town on Condor business class 70,000 points + $170 in taxes

This is one of my favorites on this list. A long nonstop flight to South Africa with very reasonable taxes. No London surcharge headache. Just a straightforward, good-value redemption.

Paris to Perth on Malaysia Airlines business class via Kuala Lumpur 85,000 points + $283 in taxes

A longer itinerary, but if you are trying to reach Australia from Europe, this is a creative and very useful way to do it. Shoutout to all our readers in Australia.

Helsinki to Tokyo Haneda on Japan Airlines business class 75,000 points + $43 in taxes

This is where Alaska can be very powerful. Low taxes, a fantastic airline, a long flight, and a premium cabin product that is difficult to book through many other programs. If you are in Scandinavia and want to get to Japan in Japan Airlines business class, this is the kind of option you should bookmark.

London to Nairobi on British Airways business class 55,000 points + $783 in taxes

The points price is reasonable, but the taxes out of London are painful. This is a recurring theme with British Airways from the UK. Keep it in mind before getting excited about the mileage number.

Cairo to Doha on Qatar Airways Qsuite 15,000 points + $69 in taxes

I know Qsuites are technically marketed as business class by Qatar, but this is a proper suite experience, so I am putting it in the first class section where it belongs in terms of product quality. And 15,000 points for a Qsuite is an amazing use of Alaska miles. Short flight, incredible product, very low points price. If you are ever connecting through Cairo or Doha, this is a very fun redemption to have in your back pocket.

Helsinki to Tokyo Haneda on Japan Airlines First Class 110,000 points + $42 in taxes

Japan Airlines First Class is one of the best premium products you can book with points anywhere in the world, and the low taxes through this program make it even more attractive. If this has ever been on your bucket list, Alaska is one of the easier ways to get there.

Alaska points are not for everyone.

At $18.80 per 1,000 points, the math can work, but only on the right awards.

For example, buying 85,000 points at that rate costs around $1,598 before taxes and fees. For a route like Paris to Perth in business class, where cash fares are expensive, that can be a very good price. For a shorter or cheaper route, it probably does not make sense.

The best uses in my experience are low-tax partner awards on airlines like Japan Airlines, Condor, Malaysia Airlines, and Philippine Airlines. I would be much more careful with British Airways from London, because the surcharges can quickly turn a good-looking mileage price into a painful total.

And I don’t recommend buying speculatively. These points are not cheap. Sales come fairly often, and there is no urgency to buy if you do not have a specific award in mind.
